My Colombian Child Training

Each of these sessions are designed with your family in mind. We ensure that there is a focus on sensitivity to culture of the child, trauma, grief, and attachment/bonding within each session. We want to provide you with the knowledge to be able to bond with your child and strengthen your connection based upon the knowledge you gain. My Colombian Child provides a comprehensive perspective of your child's emotional journey to be part of your family while understanding the Colombian Foster care system and its impact on the brain and the attachment cycle. This event is open to parents and caregivers of adopted children. For families that are not a Madison Adoption home study or placement family, the cost for each participating family is $30. Please use the credit card link in the email you will receive after submitting the registration form to pay the fee. Training is from 5 to 7 pm (EST) / 4 to 6 pm (CST).
Colombian Culture Awareness Training

Each of these sessions are designed with your family in mind. We ensure that there is a focus on sensitivity to culture of the child, trauma, grief, and attachment/bonding within each session. We want to provide you with the knowledge to be able to bond with your child and strengthen your connection based upon the knowledge you gain. This training will help families understand a bit of the Colombian culture and learn about some common behaviors. Though it cannot cover all the cultural variety of the country, it will provide helpful information about how your adopted child may behave because of his or her cultural background. It is valuable information for your stay in-country and for when you get back home. This event is open to parents and caregivers of adopted children. For families that are not a Madison Adoption home study or placement family, the cost for each participating family is $30. Pre-Adoptive Parent Training in Illinois 1/22/22
Saturday, January 22, 2022 at 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM
This training is required for all families who live in Illinois. Training registration is required prior to the completion of the home study. (If this date does not work for you, please scroll down to find another session or check our website for other dates for the 4 hour Illinois training.) Each of these sessions are designed with your family and adoption in mind. The Department of Children & Family Services (DCFS) in Illinois requires that every adoptive parent receive a minimum of 4 hours of In-Person Prospective Parent Adoption Training. The Training Session will cover important issues for parents to consider as they plan for an international adoption. The curriculum includes: * Preparing for a Successful Adoption * Process for Completing an Adoption * Adoption as a Legal Process * Understanding a Child’s Prior Experience and How They Effect Adoptive Placements * Medical Risks * Attachment Issues * Openness as a Continuum in Adoption * Special Issues in Adoption * Issues Specific to a Child’s Special Needs Training is from 9 am to 1 pm CST.

Coming home with your child is a joy, but it also brings many changes and challenges. This training intends to help families be aware of those feelings and behaviors that may appear during this time. Adjustment takes longer than expected and having additional tools may help navigate those feelings and situations while helping your child cope with being in a new culture. This event is open to parents and caregivers of adopted children. For families that are not a Madison Adoption home study or placement family, the cost for each participating family is $30.
